New Drummer

Hey everyone,

Bootsmann Collins has recently stepped down from the drum throne and his doing so has given Admiral Nobeard and I the opportunity to fill the position with an extraordinary musician. Swashbuckle has acquired the talented, multifaceted, Eric W. Brown (of Destroy Destroy Destroy, Inferi, Vale of Pnath, Magic Hammer, and Rainbowdragoneyes fame). We have dubbed this blast beating brodude: 'Legendary Pirate King Eric "The" Brown'. We've known E.W.B. ever since we started Swashbuckle and the time is finally right to form the ultimate alliance of brutal ass shit ov doom. We're stoked as fuck.

The Night Before Christmas - A 'BUCKLE RENDITION

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the hull
Not a creature was stirring, not even the gulls
The nooses were hung from the gallows with care
In hopes that Swashbuckle soon would be there

The crew were nestled all snug in their bunks
While visions of spiced rum got them all drunk
And Nobeard with his parrot, the Bootsmann, and I
Had just toasted our stolen mugs to the sky

When out on the deck there arose such a splatter
We sprang from our quarters to find Santa's brain matter!
The fool had fallen from the top of our sails
Twas then we remembered, that crime never fails!

The moon on the crests of the evening tides
Gave our cursed hearts no fair reason to cry
When, what to our plundering eyes should appear
But a gaggle of strippers, and eight kegs of beer!

With a midget bartender, so short and forlorn
I knew in a moment TWAS DANI FROM ALESTORM!
After thoroughly heckling that small Scottish chap
We took broads in our hands and made haste to the taps!

"Now Miller! Now Budweiser! Now, Guiness and Heineken!
On, Coors! On Corona! Sam Adams and Yuenglin'!
To the back of our throats! To our guts with the booze!
Now pound away! Pound away! Pound away brews!"

As the numbed ladies pranced, off came their clothes
When naked they danced, our packages rose
So back to our cabins we corsairs flew
With these sexy female joys, our loads we blew

And then, with an inkling, we thought to ourselves
What the fuck are we waiting for? LET'S SLAUGHTER SOME ELVES
As I drew my sword, the others their flints
Tiny footsteps were heard, as they started to sprint

They were dressed all in green, from their heads to their feet
And like chefs in the galley, we turned up the heat
A bundle of matches lit them on fire
And as flames rose to their chests, we had to inquire:

"How do you fucks make infinite treasure?!", we demanded
"And how can one soul distribute them single-handed?!"
Their screams fell silent, they started to speak
And the yuletide secrets of Christmas were leaked

"So now you know!", the head elf yelled to us three
"Now spare us our lives, as we had agreed!"
But we burned them alive in our small pots and pans
For we shifty pirates had far better plans...

They were cooked and served to our crew of the damned
Seasoned ever so right, the meal kinda slammed
Elf stew would be prepared every year on that day
The wee men ruing what they came to betray

We spoke not a word, but went straight to our task
Ruining this holiday with empty hearts and full flasks
We ravished Mrs. Claus in all of her holes
As she shamelessly slavered down our North Poles

We sprang back to our ship, tossed her some coin
She had danced hard for those bucks, even savored our loins
As we sailed into the eve, we exclaimed with our might:
"HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO NONE. FUCK YOU. GOOD NIGHT."

Welcome to Crying

For those who are into it, check out the review I wrote about the new Blind Guardian record, 'At the Edge of Time' over at Examiner.com.

Seattle, El Corazon

We just had two days off driving from Minneapolis, Minnesota through North Dakota and Montana to get to Seattle, Washington. We stopped in two towns, Dickinson, North Dakota, and Butte, Montana. We tried catching the movie Predators, but no theater in either town was playing it, so we settled for Inception, and what a boatload of fuck it was. Personally, I hated it. I know Chris Nolan is all about those philosophically deep, artsy/twisty movies, but on a day that we in the band just wanted to spend watching aliens blow shit up, it did NOT do the trick.

The stage is set up here at El Corazon (Spanish for "The Corazon") and I'm looking forward to getting back into the groove of playing.

On a side note, somewhere in Germany sits the final master of our new record "Crime Always Pays". Feels good to have it completed.

The City that Sometimes Sleeps

Ahh, The Big Apple. Third night of the Panic Over North America Tour and everyone is having a ripping good time. Mutiny Within is being all Jersey as fvck, Augury is being hella froggish, Death Angel is jumping everyone outside of the venues for their money, and Soilwork is playing Follow the Hollow every night and giving me a giant, 7-foot erection. Outstanding.

(De)Composition

Almost finished up with all the lyrics to the new 'Buckle record. I'd say 90% of the record (lyrically, anyway) was written on the road during the last North American tour with Korpiklaani. A glimpse of what's to come:

Toronto @ The Opera House

Hello all. So we're three days into our North American tour with Korpiklaani, Tyr, and White Wizard. Tonight puts us in the fine town of Toronto. Looking forward to another great Canadian crowd. We rocked Montreal last night at a venue we were all unfamiliar with. The great place Le Medley, where most metal shows used to be put on, closed down. Thus, a new venue choice was in order. Club Soda surprised us all. A very cool place.

If you guys and gals in the audience pay attention you'll surely notice the pirates three teching and backlining for this package. I was weary at first, but I must say, it really passes the time. There is usually A LOT of down time during a tour. Feels great to have something to occupy that time with and be monetarily compensated therewith.

Last time we played here at The Opera House we had our stand in drummer Paul Christiansen fill in for Captain Crashride. Tonight sees the return of our regular asshole. Cool. Can't wait.

Toronto! Fuck yea!

Thanks for the awesome reception dudes and dudettes! Was great to be back and see some familiar faces.

This marks the first time Swashbuckle has played with a drummer who isn't Captain Crashride. As you may or may not be aware, Crashride was arrested for mopery (revealing himself to a blind person), thus negating is ability to legally enter Canada. We enlisted the likes of Paul Christian of the central New Jersey experimental metal band We All Have Day Jobs, who from this point forward shall be known as Bootsmann Collins. He killed it in Toronto and will be accompanying Nobeard and myself the rest of the Ensiferum tour.

We are pumped as fuck to play Quebec City tonight. This town was the BEST crowd on last year's North American Paganfest so we are expecting good things. See you all tonight!

So it feels like I was just here. Oh wait... I was, with Heathenfest. Zing! Only this time, it has been brought to my attention that the club has one of my favorite beers on tap - Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat! w00t!

So, watching some football, enjoying some beer. About to sup on tasty chinese and/or pizza. Tonight marks the end of our first stint on the Monsters of Death tour with Vader. We book it home tonight and then meet up with Ensiferum December 1st in Canada.

Crazy Times

So Crashride was not let into Canada. Fuck us. We hauled ass from upstate New York to Detroit to catch our friends in Eluveitie and Alestorm kick some ass on Heathenfest. I ended up ditching my 'Buckle mates for some far more enticing company. I feel very lucky I was able to tag along with Heathenfest for a few days before meeting back up with the Monsters of Death package in Detroit again. Eluveitie puts on one fucking kick ass show. The recent shows have been mediocre at best. No showers, no food, what little beer we have is spread thin amoungst 6 bands and crew. I eagerly await our return to the Ensiferum tour at the beginning of December. Those shows are sure to be ass-whooping.

The show tonight in Addison, IL is actually pretty good. I had some tasty tortellini. Really good presale ticket wise. The much better venue here around Chicago called the Pearl Room closed down apparently, so we were forced to take refuge in this lesser known venue called the Pyramis Club. However, this turned into a fruitful gain as the venue is located directly next door to a great thrift store where Crashride and I plundered many a flannel shirt and mesh hat. Trucker Metal is the future.

Springfield, VA @ Jaxx

You people have no idea what a relief it is to finally play a show with bands whom I can enjoy musically. Tonight marks the first date on Ensiferum's From Afar tour. And fuck hell do I love me some Ensiferum. They are currently in the middle of Lai Lai Hei. A personal favorite. They might as well have perfected organized noise in my opinion. Petri was diggin or stuff heavily. Super stoked about this. Also get to enjoy the company of our old pals Blackguard again. Those crazy Canadians have not changed a bit. Good times. It is very sad to think that I only get another day of this and don't return to their tour until December.

Rolling into Allentown, PA for what may be considered out "hometown" show. Even thought its two hours away from home. Family and friends will pile in in droves.

This show kinda blows goats. No shower. No backstage. No food. No beer! Have we been spoiled by the might and wonder of European venues? Maybe? Or maybe this place just sucks the longest, girthy dick imaginable.

The only thing I ate today was a cold slice of pizza for breakfast at my house and then half of a sweet onion chicken terriyaki sandwich from Subway. I look forward to the Canadian shows for a bit more hospitality.

Worcester tomorrow @ The Palladium.

Vienna & Linz

Austria, you have treated the entire Paganfest package with fervent devotion and we all appreciate it. Vienna had a crazy crowd and you treated Swashbuckle with particular admiration. For this, we hail you. Can't wait to come back. It was a rainy a day, so I didn't get a chance to check out the town. I hear there is alot of great history to see, around Mozart's old stomping grounds no less. Our bus call was very late (or early?), at 9 am. Luckily there were two bars close to the venue - one, a killer metal club sporting great 80's hits; the other, a raging reggae hip-hop club. We bounced back and forth between the two. Ever thought Korpiklaani was into reggae? Me neither. Apparently we were all wrong.

The show tonight in Linz is literally a circus. Unleashed is on stage now, and so far on stage we have had a shopping cart gundown, a ninja attack, a roman toga party, the chartoon character Obelix, a pirate dingie row across the backdrop, a "viking longboat", and there are still two more bands to go...
